USDA Rural Development in Illinois operates federal loan programs designed to strengthen rural businesses, finance new and improved rural housing, develop community facilities and support development of water and waste disposal systems, telecommunications and utilities that serve people in rural Illinois through guaranteed loans, direct loans and grants.

Our website reflects the more than 40 programs that offer financial assistance to bring positive change to our rural areas throughout Illinois. What our website does not reflect is the sincere dedication that each of our nearly 125 employees brings to every potential project. You will experience that only after you contact any one of us who hopes to work with you.

We are the funding source for economic and community development...exclusively for rural communities.

It didn't take me long to realize, after assuming my responsibilities, that "I go to work everyday to work with people, who come to work everyday, to help people.  Rural Development not only helps individuals, but many of our programs allow us to improve entire communities.

So, thank you for visiting our website. I encourage you now to "travel through the tabs." Then contact us so that we can begin the journey of becoming partners in increasing economic opportunity and improving the quality of life for Illinois rural residents.

Rurally,
Colleen Callahan

Four New Rural Development Road Shows Scheduled

State Rural Development Director Colleen Callahan is taking her message about Recovery Act funding available to rural Illinois at four meetings to be held in January and February.  Rural Development has millions of dollars designated for rural communities, businesses and homebuyers through the American Recovery and Rehabilitation Act, and Callahan wants to make sure that the people in towns, cities and rural areas are aware of the availability of these resources.

“An unprecedented amount of funding is available to help meet the needs of rural Illinois,” Callahan said.  “My goal is to see that as much of this money as possible is used to create job opportunities, provide needed infrastructure and services, and ensure quality of life in rural Illinois.”

Callahan and agency specialists are conducting meetings in Newton, Carterville, Oregon and Springfield to share information about their programs and the possibilities available to individuals, public bodies, non-profit and for-profit organizations.  Specialists will be available following the opening presentation to talk specifically about business, community, water system and housing programs and the process of applying for funding.
