Facility Grant Program

HOW TO APPLY:
Click here to contact an area office. Basic information will be
provided over the telephone, and an application will be mailed to you to be completed and
returned to the office; or an appointment will be scheduled.
ELIGIBLE APPLICANTS:
Public bodies, such as a
municipality, county, district, authority or other political subdivision of a state.
Nonprofit corporations or
associations that have significant ties with local community and possible public purpose.
Federally recognized Indian Tribes on
a Federal or State reservation.
ELIGIBLE FACILITIES:
Community facility that is necessary
for orderly community development and consistent with the state's strategic plan
USE OF FUNDS:
Grant funds may be used to pay for up
to 75% of the cost to develop specific essential community facilities in rural areas.
- Further funding of the remaining cost
of the project shall consist of community Facilities financial assistance, applicant
contributions, or loans and grants from other sources.
The facility must be located in a
community with a population of less than 20,000
The facility must be located in a
community with a median income which is less than 80% of the non-metropolitan median
household income for the State. ($29,868 based on State of Maine
2000 census)
ILLEGAL USE OF FUNDS:
Pay annual recurring costs
Construct or repair electric
generating plants
Refinance existing debt
Pay interest
