Rural Development in North Dakota

A "Welcome Message" from the Acting State Director...

Welcome to North Dakota!

The State of North Dakota has been the best kept secret in the nation. What is most exciting is that it has demonstrated the capacity to build a strong bridge to the future with advanced technology and endless supplies of renewable energy.

Today the United States is wrestling with two major issues, a failing economy and struggling rural communities.  As we move from the Information Age into the Technology Age, the world glides into the next century. In addition, North Dakota is marching right along and making history, from its state capitol, reinvesting in its infrastructure and renewable energy projects.

Bismarck sits right on Highway 83 and I-94, in the middle of the Trade Corridor. History has taught us that cities originated as places of commerce where goods were bought and sold. An opportunity now exists to create a river of commerce flowing both north and south connecting Canada and Mexico with Highway 83. In addition, Bismarck also marks the divide between the Central and Mountain Time Zones and is a gateway from east to west, and electronically throughout the world.

The U.S. Department of Agriculture's Rural Development delivers programs to rural North Dakota in housing, business and industry, water and environmental, community facilities, community development, electric, and telecommunications.

Despite many changes, the North Dakota Rural Development professional staff has made historical strides. The Rural Economic Area Partnership (REAP) was launched into North Dakota's rural communities and the initiative has made tremendous progress.  Also, we maintain a strong partnership with our Tribal communities and together develop infrastructure and housing in their communities.

We strongly support our VISION, 'as the North Dakota Rural Development Agency, we will be the trusted and leading partner in providing efficient service, quality and easily accessible programs to revitalize rural communities.'  We are “Committed to the future of rural communities” and will continue to maintain a dedicated presence in our rural communities.

Please review our programs. We are here to help Rural America, particularly North Dakota. A listing of our state office, field offices, addresses, and telephone numbers, are included. Please give us a call!
