Outline of Need: The Community Medical Center in Falls City has been serving Richardson County for more than 90 years. However, the building that served the community over the years was not sufficient to function in today's healthcare environment with the shift in inpatient to outpatient services. A new facility was needed.

How Rural Development Helped: USDA Rural Development

provided a Community Facility Direct Loan of $9,000,000. In addition, the Stillwater National Bank financed a loan of $9,000,000 in June of 2009 that was backed by a USDA Rural Development guarantee through the Business and Industry Guaranteed Loan program. The Community Medical Center contributed $3,000,000 of their funds along with a contribution from the Heartland Regional Medical Center in Marion, Illinois of $2,000,000 and local donations of $1,000,000.

The Results: Residents of Richardson County and the surrounding areas now have better access to the full range of medical services that The Community Medical Center provides. When patients and family members walk into the doors they are greeted with a warm inviting room and a smiling helping hand. The newly constructed Community Medical Center had their dedication ceremony November 22, 2009. This facility includes 24 patient rooms, surgery suites, and private specialty clinics, a Family Medicine Clinic, two delivery rooms, maternity suites and state-of-the-art medical equipment. Patients are able to enjoy private rooms with plenty of space to accommodate visitors from family and friends during the time they need them most. New moms enjoy a relaxing room fit for a queen and her newest addition. The new building project reflects the Community's commitment to a happier and healthier southeast Nebraska.
