(SEPTEMBER 7, 2010) USDA RURAL DEVELOPMENT CELEBRATES FUNDING WITH CITY OF DEXTER

Dexter, MO, Sep 07, 2010 -- USDA RURAL DEVELOPMENT CELEBRATES

FUNDING WITH CITY OF DEXTER

Janie Dunning, Missouri State Director for USDA Rural Development, presented the two certificates of appreciation to the City of Dexter on Tuesday, September 7, 2010. The certificates were presented to celebrate funding awarded to the City from USDA Rural Development for the jail expansion project and for a new fire truck.

A grant in the amount of $85,000 was made available under the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act (ARRA) for an addition and remodeling of the current City jail. Once the project is complete, the City Police Department and Municipal Court will both be under the same roof, allowing for better organization and easier access for the City and its residents.

The fire truck acquired by the City was obtained with the assistance of a Community Facilities Disaster Grant in the amount of $117,150. The new truck replaces an older, less dependable fire truck for the City’s Fire Department.

“The grant funds originated from Rural Development’s Community Facility Grant program,” said Dunning. “This program provides funding for essential improvements to Public Bodies and Non-profit organizations with substantial ties to the local community. Funding important projects like this indicates that Rural Development is committed to the future of rural communities.” She added, “Appreciation is extended to our federal elected officials supporting USDA Rural Development. They have been strong proponents for the necessary funding for essential services for rural Missourians.”

USDA Rural Development’s mission is to deliver programs in a way that will support increasing economic opportunity and improve the quality of life of rural residents. As a venture capital entity, Rural Development provides equity and technical assistance to finance and foster growth in homeownership, business development, and critical community and technology infrastructure.
