CunninghamTownship, MO, Nov 16, 2010 -- (November 16, 2010) In a Certificate of Recognition ceremony on November 16, 2010, Steven Gerrish, Area Specialist for USDA Rural Development announced the award of $105,000 to the Cunningham Township. Funds were used to purchase a new road grader and a used backhoe for the Cunningham Township, a service area of 260 residents. The assistance consists of a Community Facilities Disaster Grant of $105,000 for the new road grader and used backhoe. Additionally, the Cunningham Township provided $35,000 plus their used grader toward the total cost of the new road grader and used backhoe.
"With the help of competitive funds from the USDA, the Cunningham Township has been be able to purchase a new road grader and used backhoe for the township," U.S. Senator Claire McCaskill said. "The new equipment will provide improved resources to the Cunningham Township and help ensure that its roads are properly maintained."
“The Cunningham Township, in Chariton County, was able to upgrade to a new motor grader and purchase a used back hoe, because of the USDA Grant,” said the Cunningham Township Board of Directors. “Cunningham Township equipment is updated with reliable equipment that will most likely last up to 15 to 20 years, without any major purchases.”
“This is a great partnership effort when everyone works together for funding the purchase of a new road grader and used backhoe to help with the maintenance of roads, ditches, and culverts throughout the township,” said Missouri State Director Janie Dunning. “This project mirrors USDA Rural Development’s mission of being committed to the future of rural communities. I want to personally thank everyone that has worked together to make this project a reality. Special thanks are extended to our federal elected officials for making available the federal funds for these kinds of projects.”
