Brunswick, MO, Nov 16, 2010 -- (November 16, 2010) In a Certificate of Recognition ceremony on November 16, 2010, Steven Gerrish, Area Specialist for USDA Rural Development announced the award of $28,320 to the City of Brunswick. Funds were used to purchase three new early storm warning sirens and one new portable flood pump for Brunswick, a community of 925 residents. The assistance consisted of a Community Facilities Disaster Grants of $14,670 for the three new early storm warning sirens and a $13,650 for the flood pump. Additionally, the City of Brunswick provided $27,248 toward the total cost of the weather sirens and $25,350 towards the purchase of the flood pump.
"Thanks to the help of competitive grant funds from the USDA, the city of Brunswick has new weather sirens and a flood pump in the event of an emergency," U.S. Senator Claire McCaskill said. "Proper equipment for emergency preparedness is crucial to the well-being and safety of our rural communities."
“The City of Brunswick would like to thank USDA for their contribution toward the purchase of the three early storm warning storm sirens and new flood pump,” stated Brunswick Mayor Joe Moser. “It makes for better coverage throughout town and better notification for the residents of Brunswick and the Brunswick schools. Also, the purchase of the new flood pump benefits the West End of Brunswick by keeping flood water out of homes and water off of Highway 24.”
“This is a great partnership effort when everyone works together for a common goal of meeting the needs of a community in providing essential equipment for the city,” said Missouri State Director Janie Dunning. “This project mirrors USDA Rural Development’s mission of being committed to the future of rural communities. I want to personally thank everyone that has worked together to make this project a reality. Special thanks are extended to our federal elected officials for making available the federal funds for these kinds of projects.”
