@@An idea that came about during discussions in 2006, legally organized in 2008, and achieved funding 2010 has grown and shown leadership in its’ ability to care about the future of Howard County. This day is dedicated to those who have donated their time, services, and energy to create and establish a regional water supply and treatment facility for Howard County, MO.

In a Certificate of Recognition ceremony on November 23, 2010, Clark Thomas, Program Director of Business and Community Programs for USDA Rural Development announced the award of $5,473,000 loan and $5,036,781 grant funds to Howard County Regional Water Commission. Accolades are given to this special group of people who have worked hard to make this dream become a reality. It has taken countless hours of teamwork and cooperation by many community leaders and volunteers and we want to recognize them today. The Commission members are City of New Franklin, City of Fayette, and Consolidated Public Water Supply District #1 of Howard County. Thomas Hill PWSD #1 is an Associate Member of the Commission. The funds have been designated to construct a water supply and treatment facility to serve three public water systems in the southern Howard County, MO. It will provide potable wholesale water, a treatment plant, wells, elevated storage, and transmission lines to serve 2 municipalities and one rural water district. This system will benefit 2,271 users in the rural areas, via 3 wholesale water purchasers.

"I am pleased to hear Howard County will be receiving competitive grant funds to create a regional water commission for the area,” U.S. Senator Claire McCaskill said. "Ensuring Howard County’s water resources are efficiently managed is crucial to the well-being of the community."

“This is a great partnership effort when everyone works together for a common goal of meeting the needs of an environmentally safe regional water system for Howard County,” said Anita J. (Janie) Dunning, Missouri State Director for USDA Rural Development. “This project mirrors USDA Rural Development’s mission and President Obama’s initiative of being committed to the future of rural communities. I want to personally thank everyone that has worked together to make this project a reality and particularly the Howard County Water Commission. I am pleased that so many rural households will benefit from an adequate and dependable water supply system.”
