(AUGUST 18, 2010) WASHINGTON COUNTY 911 CENTER RECEIVE GRANT

Washington County, Aug 18, 2010 -- Janie Dunning, the Missouri State Director of USDA Rural Development, presented Washington County Emergency Services Group, Inc. (WCESG) with a Certificate of Appreciation on Wednesday, August 18, 2010 at the county’s 911 center north of Potosi. The certificate was presented to celebrate a $12,545 grant made available under the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act (ARRA). The funds were used in conjunction with $10,265 provided by the WCESG to purchase computer software to enhance the county’s ability to respond to emergency medical dispatch calls received at the 911 center.

“I’m pleased to hear that with the help of USDA competitive grant funding, Washington County Emergency Services Group was able to purchase up-to-date computer software to enhance their 911 dispatch center,” U.S. Senator Claire McCaskill said. “The proper equipment for emergency preparedness is crucial to the everyday needs of the community.”

“We are grateful to the USDA Rural Development section for assisting us in providing better service to the people of Washington County,”  said 911 Center Director Brad Barton. “This grant afforded us the opportunity to purchase the tools needed to help people in medical emergencies.  We are now meeting an industry standard, and making a life-saving impact on our communities.  The American Reinvestment and Recovery Act of 2009 is controversial and has been widely debated in communities throughout the country, but here in Washington County it has made a positive impact.”

Dunning said, “I would like to congratulate the county 911 group for their efforts in improving emergency communications and response times for the residents of Washington County. “This is a great partnership effort when everyone works together for a common goal of meeting the needs of a community.” “This project mirrors USDA, Rural Development’s mission of being committed to the future of rural communities. I want to personally thank everyone who worked together to make this project a reality. Special thanks are extended to our federal elected officials for making available the federal funds for funding these projects.”
