|(APRIL 15, 2010) USDA RURAL DEVELOPMENT PROVIDES $56,960 GRANT TO THE HANDI-SHOP, INC. WORKSHOP FOR TRUCK|

@@In a mock check ceremony on April 15, 2010, Anita J. (Janie) Dunning, Missouri State Director, USDA Rural Development announced the award of $56,960 to the Handi-Shop, Inc. sheltered workshop. Funds were used to purchase a new flatbed truck which is essential in the pickup and delivery of recyclables for the workshop. The assistance consists of a Rural Business Enterprise Grant of $56,960 from USDA, Rural Development. Additionally, the Handi-Shop, Inc. sheltered workshop provided $1,540 toward the total cost of $58,500.
“The purchase of this new truck will do much to enhance the important mission of the people and employees at Handi-Shop, Inc.,” said U.S. Senator Bond. “I commend the hard work of all who were involved in securing these funds and am proud that the work being done by Handi-Shop, Inc. is taking place right here in my hometown of Mexico.”
Handi-Shop, Inc. Manager Rodney Shivers stated, “On behalf of our employees, board of directors, and staff, we would like to say thank you to the USDA Rural Development for your assistance and funding of our new 2008 International Flatbed Delivery Truck. Our previous truck was purchased in 1990 and in need of repairs. This new truck will enable us to improve our deliveries to our local community and to secure future jobs for our employees with its dependability”.
“This is a great partnership effort when everyone works together for a common goal of meeting the needs in a community by providing essential equipment for this sheltered workshop,” said Dunning. “This project mirrors USDA Rural Development’s mission of being committed to the future of rural communities. I want to personally thank everyone that has worked together to make this project a reality. Special thanks are extended to our federal elected officials for making available the federal funds for these kinds of projects.”
