Callao, MO, Apr 13, 2010 -- In a mock check ceremony on April 13, 2010, Anita J. (Janie) Dunning, Missouri State Director, USDA Rural Development announced the award of $7,590 to the City of Callao. Funds were used to purchase a new early storm warning siren system for Callao a community of 291 residents. The assistance consists of a Community Facilities Grant of $7,590 from USDA, Rural Development. Additionally, the City of Callao provided $6,784 toward the total cost of $14,374 and Macon Electric Cooperative participated in setting the siren pole.
Gayle Craigg the President of the Callao Board of Alderman stated, “The community is proud to "sport" our new siren! The safety factor alone is so reassuring since we were in Mother Nature’s path a few years ago. Securing the grant made it possible for our little town to enjoy the peace of mind protection that would not have been financially feasible otherwise. Thanks to the USDA Rural Development for their programs”.
“This is a great partnership effort when everyone works together for a common goal of meeting the needs of a community in providing essential equipment for the city,” said Dunning. “This project mirrors USDA Rural Development’s mission of being committed to the future of rural communities. I want to personally thank everyone that has worked together to make this project a reality. Special thanks are extended to our federal elected officials for making available the federal funds for these kinds of projects.”
