@@Janie Dunning, Missouri State Director for USDA Rural Development, announced funding of $14,850 to the Marceline Area Nutrition Program to help purchase new kitchen equipment for the Senior Citizens that depend on the Center to provide noon meals during the week. A certificate representing the funding was presented to the Nutrition Center during a funding celebration held on Monday, December 6th at the Nutrition Center located at 229 W. Hauser.

The grant funds originated from Rural Development’s Community Facility Grant program. These community facility grants provide funding for essential public improvements to public bodies and non-profit corporations with substantial ties to the local community. The remainder of the cost of the kitchen equipment ($12,241) was provided by the Marceline Area Nutrition Program.

Rural Development worked with Gaye Bell, Administrator, in the application phase of funding for the project. Ms. Bell expressed appreciation to Rural Development for funding of the new kitchen equipment, as the existing kitchen equipment was over 25 years old and cost prohibitive to repair. The Nutrition Center was not in a financial position to purchase the new kitchen equipment without the assistance of USDA Rural Development.

“The Marceline Area Nutrition Program is a vital service for this area. I am pleased to support this grant which will allow the center to purchase necessary equipment to fulfill its mission, “said U.S. Congressman Sam Graves.” “I appreciate USDA Rural Development’s commitment to the people and communities of rural Missouri.”

“Funding this kitchen equipment for the nutrition center is a perfect example that indicates Rural Development is committed to the future of rural communities,” said Dunning. “Appreciation is extended to our federal elected officials supporting Rural Development. They have been strong proponents for the necessary funding for essential services for rural Missourians.”

USDA Rural Development’s mission is to deliver programs in a way that will support increasing economic opportunity and improve the quality of life of rural residents.
