York, Nebraska, Dec 17, 2010 -- The Region V Foundation was recognized today in York, Nebraska by USDA Rural Development Nebraska State Director Maxine Moul with a plaque presentation for the funding they received.
“We are pleased to celebrate the Rural Business Enterprise Grant that has funded Region V,” said Moul. “The funding will be a great asset to York and Tecumseh as it will enhance the work environments for those they serve.”
The Region V Foundation was selected to receive a $99,900 Rural Business Enterprise Grant (RBEG) that will assist in the renovation and construction of an addition to a recently purchased facility, The ReVue, in York. The building will house a consignment business which provides a community integrated workplace as well as training environment for people who experience intellectual and developmental disabilities.
The funds will also be used by the Kernal Crazy Popcorn Factory in Tecumseh to purchase a new cooker/mixer for the factory. The new equipment will increase efficiency, decrease repairs and enhance popcorn production. The factory provides developmentally disabled individuals with jobs in the community. Between both projects, 16 jobs will be created or saved.
“We are very thankful for the funding from the RBEG. We had totally outgrown our previous location and could not have made the wonderful changes to our store without the help of USDA Rural Development. We are happy with our new look as well as the extra space. We know the ReVue has made a positive impact on our community,” said Lisa Obermier, Area Director for Region V Services.
