(FEBRUARY 15, 2011) USDA RURAL DEVELOPMENT PROVIDES $284,000 LOAN FOR A NEW FIRE STATION
Steeleville, MO, Feb 15, 2011 --

@@Anita J. Dunning, the Missouri State Director of USDA Rural Development, hosted a certificate presentation on February 15, 2011, at the Steelville Volunteer Fire Protection District station located in Steelville. The Steelville Volunteer Firefighters Association received a Community Facility Loan through USDA Rural Development to purchase the land and construct a new fire station for the Steelville Volunteer Fire District that will be located on Highway 19 South.

In addition to the USDA Rural Development funding Betty LeSeure with the Missouri Department of Economic Development informed the attendees that the Community Development Block Grant program has awarded $300,000 of grant funds to Crawford County on behalf of the Steelville Fire Protection District. The CDBG grant, in conjunction with the USDA loan, will provide the fire district a facility that is located out of the floodplain and will provide adequate

fire protection to the entire Fire District.

“I am pleased to hear that Steelville will be getting a new fire station with the help of a low-interest loan,” U.S. Sen. Claire McCaskill said. “The people who volunteer to put their lives on the line to protect us deserve the best resources available.”

Dunning said, “Funding important projects like the construction of a new fire station mirrors

President Obama’s initiatives for rural America and Rural Development’s commitment to the future of rural communities. Appreciation is also extended to our Federal elected officials for supporting USDA Rural Development. They have been strong proponents for the necessary funding for essential services for rural Missourians.”
