(NOVEMBER 17, 2010) USDA RURAL DEVELOPMENT RECOGNIZES PRAIRIE WEST DEVELOPMENT FOUNDATION
BEACH, ND, Nov 17, 2010 --

@@USDA Rural Development State Director Jasper Schneider today will be meeting with local leaders and the Prairie West Development Foundation in Beach, N.D. He will be recognizing them for their efforts and strong leadership to develop economic development strategies that will create jobs and build regional economies.

Prairie West Development Foundation received a $74,000 Rural Business Opportunity Grant (RBOG) award to conduct a feasibility study for a proposed recycling manufacturing business for waste paper in addition to other waste streams in surrounding communities.

“This grant award will provide the necessary funds to develop a feasibility study for a proposed waste paper recycling manufacturing business in the community,” said Schneider. “This is an example of the ways in which we are helping strengthen the nation's rural communities by providing a foundation for job creation and economic growth.”

The project is estimated at $99,500 with the remaining funds coming from the Southwest REAP Zone and Dickinson State University.

“This is going to be a very exciting project which wouldn't be possible without the assistance from USDA Rural Development,” said Debra Walworth, executive director for Prairie West Development Foundation. “Our hope is to find out we have what it takes to create a new primary sector industry in this area.”

The Rural Business Opportunity Grant (RBOG) program promotes sustainable economic development in rural communities with exceptional needs through provision of training and technical assistance for business development, entrepreneurs, and economic development officials and to assist with economic development planning.
