(NOVEMBER 17, 2010) USDA RURAL DEVELOPMENT RECOGNIZES ROOSEVELT CUSTER REGIONAL COUNCL
DICKINSON, ND, Nov 17, 2010 --

@@Rural Development State Director Jasper Schneider today will be meeting with leaders from Roosevelt-Custer Regional Council in Dickinson. He will be recognizing them for their efforts and strong leadership to develop economic development strategies that will create jobs and build regional economies.

Roosevelt-Custer Regional Council received a $78,700 Rural Business Opportunity Grant (RBOG) award which will be used to provide technical assistance to address influences and impacts of energy development on area communities in the Southwest Rural Economic Area Partnership (REAP) Zone. The Southwest REAP is a regional collaboration of federal, state, and local representatives working to stem the out migration of people and jobs from the region.

“The work Roosevelt-Custer is doing will provide the road to build a stronger economic future for communities in the Southwest Reap Zone,” said Schneider. “This is an example of the ways in which we are helping strengthen the nation's rural communities by providing a foundation for job creation and economic growth.”

The cost of the project is estimated at $106,300 with the remaining funds coming from the applicant.

“Southwestern North Dakota is haven to a number of energy resources that could have a profound effect upon the region,” said Rod Landblom, executive director for Roosevelt-Custer Regional Council. “Without the help from USDA Rural Development, it would not have been possible to explore the multiple resources in order to give us a clearer picture of what lies ahead.”

The rural Business Opportunity Grant (RBOG) program promotes sustainable economic development in rural communities with exceptional needs through provision of training and technical assistance for business development, entrepreneurs, and economic development officials and to assist with economic development planning.
