Outline Of Need:
The Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) Unit used by the Pemiscot County Memorial Health Systems was very old and technologically outdated. Replacement parts were very difficult to find, often requiring long periods where the MRI Unit was unusable and patients had to travel to other facilities for the service.
How Rural Development Helped:
Rural Development provided a Community Facilities Loan in the amount of $300,000 and a Community Facilities Grant in the amount of $250,000 to replace the old MRI Unit with a newer, refurbished model and modular building to house the unit.
With the loan and grant provided by Rural Development, Pemiscot County Memorial Health Systems is able to ensure their patients have access to reliable, functioning medical equipment in their time of need. Pemiscot County consists of 15 communities that will benefit from the availability of the medical care the MRI Unit provides. Approximately 30,000 residents are located within the Pemiscot County Memorial Health System's service area including: Pemiscot County, eastern Dunklin County and southern New Madrid County.
