(MAY 19, 2011) PROVIDENCE MEDICAL CENTER BREAKS GROUND FOR EXPANSION

Wayne, Nebraska, May 19, 2011 -- USDA Rural Development Community Programs Director Denise Brosius-Meeks and staff joined the Providence Medical Center in Wayne, Nebraska today for the groundbreaking of the $3.5 million hospital expansion. USDA Rural Development provided a $3.5 million loan to the hospital through its Community Facility Direct Loan program.

“USDA Rural Development is pleased to fund this project as healthcare is a top priority,” said Community Programs Director Denise Brosius-Meeks, USDA Rural Development. “The hospital expansion will further improve and expand health care services to the area and is an important investment to the community and surrounding areas.”

Providence Medical will construct a 7,300 square foot Physical Therapy suite expansion to include new treatment opportunities such as a pediatric suite with private parent viewing area, a warm therapy pool, an occupational therapy suite for simulation of activities of daily living, along with a specialized occupational therapy upper-extremity treatment area and additional therapy treatment rooms. Approximately 8,500 square feet will be added to expand upon Wellness and Cardiac rehabilitation services. Lastly, a 3,000 square foot addition will allow the Outpatient and Oncology departments to provide more generalized and specialized clinic rooms, allowing for expansion of the current volume and variety of programs offered. The Outpatient space will offer a year round walking track, childcare services, and an enhanced youth exercise program.

Providence Medical Center (PMC) is a critical access hospital that employs nearly 170 individuals. The 25 bed acute care hospital provides quality health care in response to the needs of its local, rural communities. PMC furnishes acute, skilled/swing-bed, and intermediate care, as well as Medicare certified home health, hospice, and private pay person care. Palliative care is also available. Outreach clinics are held in Wisner, Wakefield, and Laurel. This expanded facility will enhance health care to the area.
