USDA RURAL DEVELOPMENT CELEBRATES EARTH DAY WITH RIBBON CUTTING CEREMONY
Over $9 Million invested for this project by USDA Rural Development
Alexandria, LA, Apr 21, 2011 --

    @@USDA State Director for Rural Development in Louisiana, Clarence W. Hawkins, traveled to Vermilion Parish to recognize Earth Day and celebrate Waterworks District #1 new water treatment and production plant which was funded by USDA Rural Development for extension to the service area for rural customers. Earth Day is celebrated around the world as a day to promote awareness of environmental issues.

    "This Rural Development, Water and Environmental Programs funding will enable this parish to offer safer potable water to the residents of Vermilion Parish," said Clarence W. Hawkins, USDA Rural Development State Director. "Clean, safe drinking water ensures a decent quality of life—and in helping to improve environmental quality in rural

areas."

Over $9 million in USDA Rural Development loan and grant funding was used to construct three new water wells, filter and softeners, two ground storage and pumping stations. The water system improvements will ensure clean, safe drinking water for the Town of Kaplan.
