Expansion at Pocahontas Homes

New Apartments Opened in 1981 at Complex in Pocahontas

POCAHONTAS, Iowa – June 9, 2011 – Karla McKibban with USDA Rural Development was in Pocahontas today to recognize the board and management at Pocahontas Homes for an expansion project in 1981 that has provided quality housing services to residents in Pocahontas for 30 years.

The first apartment building built by Pocahontas Homes, Inc. was constructed in 1969. Today, after various expansions in the community, Pocahontas Homes now offers a total of 36 one- and two-bedroom apartments to families and elderly residents in Pocahontas.

“It’s with great pleasure that we recognize Pocahontas Homes for doing an outstanding job with their complexes in Pocahontas,” said Bill Menner, USDA Rural Development State Director in Iowa. “The company is dedicated to ensuring all building requirements and residents’ overall safety and security needs are being met.”

Apartments owned by Pocahontas Homes can be found in various locations around the community.

Pocahontas Homes, Inc. is professionally managed by Bill Murphy of Algona. Local site managers are Dave and Debra Flemming and the current board president is Jim Hudson of Pocahontas.

USDA Rural Development currently provides financing for 500 multi-family housing projects in rural Iowa. These facilities provide rural Iowans with access to more than 9,600 apartments. Rent in the apartments is based on income and rent assistance from the government is available depending on the income of the tenant.
