MT. LAUREL, Apr 12, 2011 -- USDA Rural Development State Director Howard Henderson announced the Borough of Gibbsboro as recipient of loan and grant funds totaling $625,000 through USDA Rural Development Water and Environmental Program. Additional funding is being provided from New Jersey Environmental Infrastructure Trust and New Jersey Department of Transportation. These funds will be used to replace part of an aging sanitary sewer collection system dating back to the 1950’s.
The sewer improvements will be made in the “Development Section” of Gibbsboro, located along the northeast end of the municipality between Kirkwood Road and Haddon Avenue. These improvements include replacing and re-lining terracotta pipe in order to reduce inflow and infiltration. Service laterals, sewer mains, manholes and manhole covers will also be replaced in the designated streets.
“Investments in our water and wastewater infrastructure protect public health and the environment for future generations,” said Henderson. “It also helps create jobs while rebuilding America’s infrastructure.”
USDA Rural Development will continue to make investments in projects that support local communities by providing greater economic opportunities while protecting natural resources for future generations.
