JUNE 30, 2011 USDA RURAL DEVELOPMENT PROVIDES ALTON MULTI-PURPOSE SENIOR CENTER, INC., $22,500 FOR KITCHEN EQUIPMENT

Alton, MO, Jun 30, 2011 -- Mark Hultgren, USDA Rural Development Area Director, visited Alton Multipurpose Senior Center, Inc. on June 30, 2011 to recognize the grant funds received through the Community Facility (CF) program. The Rural Development Community Facilities (CF) Grant in the amount of $22,500 combined with a $7,500 contribution from the not-for-profit senior center and Southwest Missouri Office of Aging purchased replacement kitchen equipment for the senior center.

Alton Multipurpose Senior Center, Inc. has been in operation since 1991 in Oregon County and provides meals on site for the seniors and disabled citizens of the City of Alton as well as meals on wheels for eligible clients of Oregon County. The senior center appreciates the grant funds used to replace worn and aged equipment in order that they may continue to provide an essential service to the community of Alton and rural residents of Oregon County.

Missouri State Director, Janie Dunning said, “This project mirrors USDA Rural Development’s mission and President Obama’s initiative of being committed to the future of rural communities. This is a great partnership effort when everyone works together for a common goal of meeting the essential needs of a community. Appreciation is extended to our federal elected officials including U.S. Senators Claire McCaskill and Roy Blunt plus U.S. Representative Jo Ann Emerson for making available the federal monies for funding this kind of project providing essential services for rural Missouri.”
