BOWDON, ND, Jul 14, 2011 --

@@USDA Rural Development State Director Jasper Schneider announced that the City of Bowdon received grant and loan funds to make improvements to the Bowdon School complex. Through the USDA Community Facilities Program, the city received $54,951 in grant funds and a $19,939 direct loan.

“It is important to re-invest in community facilities to improve the quality of life for residents,” Schneider said. “Leadership in the City of Bowdon pushed this project forward in a continued effort to revitalize the community.”

The Bowdon School complex serves as a community center and library. The complex provides space for meetings, large events, continuing education, technical classes and wellness programs. The facility’s current condition is not in compliance with the American with Disabilities Act (ADA) and with a deteriorating roof, there is risk of damage to books and computers in the library.

Through USDA Rural Development, funding will be provided to make the building ADA compliant and the roof above the library will be replaced. The project will also make several improvements to include: renovating or replacing the drainage system, entrances, restrooms, sidewalks, doors, and hardware. The total project cost is estimated at $173,560 with additional funding being provided by the Department of Commerce and the Bowdon Development Center.
