Albuquerque, Jul 20, 2011 -- USDA Rural Development State Director Terry Brunner announced today that a workshop on available programs for independent producers and small business development will be held in Santa Rosa, New Mexico on Thursday, July 28, 2011. The workshop will provide information on how to apply for upcoming programs including:
Rural Business Opportunity Grant (RBOG)
Public bodies, non-profit corporations, Indian tribes on Federal or State reservations, and other federally recognized tribal groups and cooperatives with primarily rural resident membership can apply for programs to assist in planning, training and technical assistance for business development, entrepreneurship training, and economic development planning. Application deadline is August 1, 2011.
Small Socially Disadvantaged Producer Grant (SSDPG)
Provides opportunities to eligible Cooperatives and Associations of Cooperatives for the purpose of providing technical assistance to small, socially-disadvantaged agricultural producers in rural areas. Application deadline is August 15, 2011.
Value Added Producer Grant (VAPG)
Independent Producers of Agricultural Commodities, Agriculture Producer Groups, Farmer and Rancher Cooperatives, and Majority-Controlled Producer-Based Business Ventures are eligible to apply for this program. Funds are available for planning grants and working capital grants directly related to the processing and/or marketing of value-added products. Application deadline is August 29, 2011.
