USDA Rural Development Announces Funding for Sherman Theater’s
Fine Arts Discovery Series, Inc.
Stroudsburg, PA, July 22, 2011 – USDA Rural Development State Director Thomas Williams today announced a Rural Business Enterprise Grant (RBEG) for the Fine Arts Discovery Series, Inc. to purchase staging and rigging equipment for their productions at the Sherman Theater.
According to Williams, “The funding to purchase new, updated stage equipment will assist Fine Arts Discovery Series with booking and producing some of today’s biggest shows, impacting the local business community with increased activity and patronage.”
Located in historic downtown Stroudsburg, the Sherman Theater currently has a wide range of artists, musicians and theatrical groups slated to perform throughout the summer. The theater currently draws over 90,000 visitors per year at a financial impact to the region of nearly $4,000,000.
USDA Rural Development’s RBEG program provides grants for rural projects that finance and facilitate development of small and emerging rural businesses, distance learning networks, and employment related adult education programs.
Through its Rural Development mission area, USDA administers and manages more than 40 housing, business and community infrastructure and facility programs through a network of approximately 110 employees located in 11 offices throughout Pennsylvania.
