@@DES MOINES, Iowa – August 4, 2011 – Bill Menner, U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) Rural Development State Director in Iowa, recently recognized Mt. Union resident Cherie Byrum for achieving 20 years of service to the federal government.

During her 20-year federal service career, Byrum has worked out of the USDA offices in Fairfield, Bloomfield, Keosauqua, Albia and Mount Pleasant helping bring a variety of funding programs to rural residents, communities and businesses.

She currently manages the agency’s Multi-Family Housing Programs in the Mt. Pleasant, as well as Albia offices, working with managers at 120 apartment complexes in 19 counties in south central and southeastern Iowa. Byrum works directly with apartment managers on a wide range of topics including loan servicing, budget reviews, applications for additional program assistance, site visits and tenant needs.

“Every day, Cherie helps USDA Rural Development live our mission of increasing economic opportunities and improving the quality of life for all rural Americans,” Menner said. “We are extremely grateful that Cherie has been a part of our agency the past 20 years.”

During the past year, USDA Rural Development’s investment in rural Iowa has helped create or retain more than 2,200 jobs in rural Iowa, aid 2,500 families in buying their own homes and assist more than 250 rural communities as they make improvements to their facilities, services and infrastructure.
