Outline Of Need:

USDA Rural Development staff in Wyoming participated in the Community Gardens, Know Your Farmer, Know Your Food Initiative, and the Feds, Farmers, and Friends Feed Families Initiatives.

How Rural Development Helped:

The staff in our Sheridan office planted a garden plot at the Sheridan College Ag Center where they planted tomatoes, a variety of peppers, egg plant, squash, green beans, and an assortment of flowers. All of the produce grown in this Community Garden was donated to the local People’s Assistance food bank.

Our offices also participated in the “Feds Feed Families Food Drive”. Several donation collection bins were placed around the local communities and at our office locations. USDA Rural Development employees also contributed. From June—August we collected a total of 1,326 pounds of food and non-perishable items to donate to local food banks.

Our Torrington office really took the “bull by the horns” and collected a whopping 758 pounds. They used innovative measures to single handedly collect over half the donations in our state.

The Results:

With the economic difficulties our nation continues to experience and the huge impact it has on many families, we feel very fortunate to help make a difference. The community garden contributed fresh produce which meant healthy meals for the recipients.

USDA Rural Development food drive and community garden was the perfect way to give back to our communities and help make a difference in the lives of those in need.
