LIBRARY INITIATIVE FUNDING RESULTS IN INCREASED SPACE AND NEW LEARNING OPPORTUNITIES
Jun 01, 2011 --

Outline Of Need:

The Goshen County Library found itself landlocked and in need of expansion due to the tremendous volume of services it provides. Parking was also very limited which was creating a hardship, especially on the elderly residents of the county.

Goshen County, Wyoming is growing rapidly following decades of a relatively stable population. They are experiencing a local mineral and wind energy boom which has led to an increased population and thus increased use of this facility.

The Library, which is small, rural, and funded largely by a non-profit library foundation, was unable to afford the important and much needed expansion.

How Rural Development Helped:

The City of Torrington graciously agreed to sell the adjacent building at an attractive price while Rural Development, through the Library Initiative, was able to provide funding with terms which were affordable to this worthy community facility.

The Results:

The funds provided by Rural Development were utilized by the Library to purchase the adjacent building. The Library was then able to utilize their limited funds plus various donations to turn the new facility into a modern and useful space. They are now able to provide ample learning and recreational opportunities, provide space for numerous community events, and offer adjacent off-street parking - all while remaining centrally located for the benefit of all residents.
