Outline of Need:

The residents in and around the City of Torrington consist of many elderly or handicapped residents who are unable to cook, go to a grocery store or visit any of the dining establishments in the area . This has created an ever-increasing need to provide essential food services for the elderly, home-bound living in Goshen County.

How Rural Development Helped:

Rural Development, the City of Torrington and Goshen County came together and partnered through loans and grants to purchase a new Meals on Wheels vehicle and various kitchen equipment for the Torrington Senior Center.

The new vehicle that was purchased also contains hot and cold storage that is used to deliver daily meals to community members.

The Results:

Since Goshen County Senior Friendship Center received funding for a new vehicle for their Meals on Wheels Program, they have been able to deliver hot and cold meals daily to approximately 80-100 elderly/handicapped residents in Torrington and the surrounding communities.

Additionally, through this collaboration, approximately 100 meals a day are also served at the Torrington Senior Center. This partnership has provided a vital service to the residents of Goshen County.
