@@In a Certificate of Recognition ceremony on July 21, 2011, Anita J. (Janie) Dunning, Missouri State Director for USDA Rural Development, announced the award of $23,265 to Knox County. Funds were used to upgrade the heating system in the courthouse. The assistance consisted of a USDA Rural Development Community Facilities Grant of $23, 265, with Knox County providing $ 19,035 toward the cost of the heating system. Knox County has 4361 citizens in the county.
“I’m pleased the Knox County Courte House was awarded a competitive grant through the USDA to help make vital improvements to this community structure.” U. S. Senator Claire McCaskill said. “These funds will purchase a new heating system for the courthouse that will allow energy savings to the county and have an impact on the lives of citizens.”
Knox County Presiding Commissioner, Evan Glasgow stated, “We appreciate the 55% grant assistance from USDA Rural Development. The new heating system replaced an existing system that was 50 years old. The new system is more energy efficient thus saving money for the county.”
“This is a great partnership effort when everyone works together for funding of the new heating system to benefit all citizens in Knox County,” said Missouri State Director Janie Dunning. “This project mirrors USDA Rural Development’s mission of being committed to the future of rural communities. I want to personally thank everyone that has worked together to make this project a reality. Special thanks are extended to our federal elected officials for making available the federal funds for these kinds of projects.”
The funds are part of the Community Facility Program, which provide loans and grants to public bodies and non-profit entities to assist in the development and improvements of essential community facilities in rural areas and towns up to 20,000 in population.
