BISMARCK, ND, Aug 17, 2011 --

@@USDA Rural Development announces progress report outlining the agency’s impact across North Dakota. Over the past year, more than $900 million has been invested through financial programs with nearly $200 million of that total obligated through the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act.

“The report highlights a substantial investment made into the future of North Dakota,” said Jasper Schneider, USDA Rural Development State Director. “By partnering with individuals, businesses and communities, we have been able to build critical infrastructure and spur economic activity.”

Financing for the $969 million is distributed through 43 different programs including direct loans, guaranteed loans and grants. The report provides a snapshot of projects in every corner of the state and in communities of all sizes. Some of the bigger projects funded include essential infrastructure such has housing, hospitals, emergency service facilities, water and sewer systems, the deployment of high-speed internet, and electrical and telephone services.

USDA Rural Development programs are established through the 2008 Farm Bill. The agency has 55 employees throughout five offices across North Dakota.
