ProWorks, Inc. in Litchfield Awarded $14,000 USDA Grant to Purchase Forklift
LITCHFIELD, Minn., Aug. 23 -- USDA Rural Development State Director Colleen Landkamer visited ProWorks, Inc. in Litchfield today to officially award the nonprofit a $14,000 grant to purchase two new forklifts – one for their Danielson-Nelson Site in Litchfield, and one for their Red Rooster Site in Dassel.
Additionally, the acquisition of these forklifts is supported by a loan from Meeker County Development Corporations’ Intermediary Relending Program. The purchase of these much needed forklifts would not be possible without the collaboration and support of these agencies.
“Organizations like ProWorks are essential in building strong rural communities,” Landkamer said. “Everybody living in rural Minnesota deserves the opportunity to expand their skills and building a better world. Proworks provides those opportunities to people living with developmental disabilities and related conditions.”
ProWorks provides both center-based and community-based adult day training and habilitation services based on the premise that every person possesses an inherent capacity to achieve some level of independence. ProWorks staff of 30 people provides training and support to encourage each person to develop or maintain their abilities.
“ProWorks presently provides services to 85 individuals with developmental disabilities, traumatic brain injury and mental illness,” said ProWorks Director Dale Miller. “In order to provide work opportunities to these individuals, we need the proper tools. These forklifts ensure that ProWorks’ personnel will be able to safely move work product, and therefore, continue to provide valuable work opportunities to persons who live with limitations.”
USDA Rural Development has invested about $3 billion throughout Minnesota since 2009. In additional to assisting organizations like Pro Works, Rural Development finances infrastructures, community facilities, housing, business development and renewable energy projects in rural areas.
