LINTON, ND, Aug 30, 2011 -- USDA Rural Development State Director Jasper Schneider today presented Sue Schumacher with the 2011 North Dakota Multi-Family Housing Site Manager of the Year award.
“Rural Development helps ensure communities have affordable rental options, but it’s the efforts of managers like Sue who guarantee the success of these housing communities,” Schneider said. “Sue has invested a great amount of time and energy to provide tenants with a safe, friendly place to call home.”
Since 2008, Sue Schumacher has managed The Willows Apartments in Linton under Five Star Services, Inc. With a limited budget, Schumacher has effectively managed the day-to-day operations and appearance of the property. She has also been instrumental in promoting the apartments by successfully increasing the occupancy to an all time high this year.
“Good management is an elusive ideal sought but not often attained,” said Chuck Hendricks, President and Owner of Five Star Services, Inc. “This is especially true in government assisted housing, but we feel at Five Star one of the keys of obtaining good management is hiring good site people and Sue Schumacher exemplifies good people.”
Nominations for Manager of the Year are made by project owners and supported by tenants. Selection criteria are based on 1) tenant satisfaction; 2) curb appeal; 3) accurate and complete record-keeping; and 4) consistent performance of actions above and beyond the call of duty.
USDA Rural Development helped finance The Willows Apartments. Currently, Rural Development is providing financing for more than 200 multi-family housing projects in local communities across North Dakota. The availability of apartments plays an important role in the sustainability of rural communities by allowing residents to continue to live in their home community, many times close to family and friends.
