McRae, GA, Jul 21, 2011 -- The City of McRae celebrated Rural Development funding for a building renovation and two vehicles totaling $1.07 million today.
The City obtained a community facilities loan for $1,037,500 to purchase and renovate the former Georgia Power building to create a Public Safety Center for the Police and Fire Departments. The loan is repayable at 4.125 percent interest over 30 years.
The City was also able to obtain funding for two vehicles. A new police car with state-of-the-art safety equipment is being obtained with a community facilities loan for $14,625 and an economic impact initiative grant for $17,875. A public works vehicle is being purchased with a community facilities loan for $45,000 and a grant for $50,000. Loans are repayable at 4.125 percent over five years.
"These projects will improve the quality of life in McRae," said Donnie Thomas, acting state director of USDA Rural Development in Georgia. "City and county leaders are to be commended for their planning efforts."
