Haralson County, GA, Aug 25, 2011 -- A groundbreaking ceremony was held this morning at the corner of Hwy 27 and Business 27, across from the Farm Bureau, for construction of Kelly Foundation for Senior Living, Inc, a 30-unit assisted living facility in Buchanan. Construction of the 28,000 sq. ft. facility is being financed with a community facilities loan for $4,999,000 through USDA Rural Development.
"This facility will be a big asset to Haralson County," said Donnie Thomas, acting state director of USDA Rural Development. "Our population continues to age and this level of support is needed by families."
The nearest facility is currently in Carroll County, about 50 minutes away. All of the facilities within reasonable driving range have waiting lists for admittance and Haralson County currently does not have an assisted living facility.
Kelly Foundation for Senior Living, Inc., is a 501(c)3 non-profit. The loan is repayable over 30 years at 4.125 percent interest.
The community facilities program at USDA Rural Development provides funding for essential equipment and community facilities that improve the quality of life in rural areas. For more information on Rural Development programs in Georgia, visit http://www.rurdev.usda.gov/ga.
