(SEPT. 14, 2011) USDA WELCOMES NEW WEST FARGO FIRE HALL
WEST FARGO, ND, Sep 14, 2011 --

@@The West Fargo Fire Department will be celebrating the completion of their new fire hall today. Through USDA Rural Development, the project received a $1.5 million loan to construct the 9,000 square foot facility.

“Public safety is a top priority when building safe, thriving communities to live,” said Jasper Schneider, USDA Rural Development State Director. “Seconds matter in emergency situations and this new facility will enhance West Fargo’s ability to keep residents safe as the city continues to grow.”

West Fargo has experienced tremendous growth in recent years as housing and commercial developments expanded south of I-94. This presented new challenges to fire and police services as response times increased, making the need for an additional facility even greater.

The new fire hall has five truck bays, offices and space for future 24 hour staffing. The West Fargo Police Department will also be utilizing the new building as a substation, occupying one bay and some of the office and storage areas.

“This is the culmination of over three years of planning and work by many very dedicated people,” said Roy Schatschneider, West Fargo Fire Department Fire Chief. “The Fire Department Board of Directors and Building Committee, City of West Fargo staff, the architect and general contractor, and USDA Rural Development personnel all worked hand in hand to bring this project to a successful completion.  This project will serve the citizens of West Fargo well into the future.”

The volunteer West Fargo Fire Department, a non-profit corporation, has been operating out of the original fire hall on 106 First Street since 1941. The new, additional facility is located at the intersection of 29th Avenue and Fifth Street West. Currently, the department has three full-time employees and 42 volunteer firefighters. The total project cost is estimated at $1.75 million.
