Fontanelle, IA, Sep 18, 2011 --

@@FONTANELLE, Iowa – September 18, 2011 – Kathy Pfiffner with USDA Rural Development was in Fontanelle today to participate in open house activities for the community’s newly renovated and expanded library.

USDA Rural Development is assisting the project with grant funds totaling $150,000. These funds are being award through the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act.

“We are pleased to be assisting with this library project that will help provide an outstanding educational environment to residents living in and around Fontanelle,” said Bill Menner, USDA Rural Development State Director in Iowa. “Public libraries play an integral role in enhancing quality-of-life opportunities in rural communities.”

The newly completed renovation and expansion has added 2,300 square-feet to the library building.

Along with additional space for the library’s growing collections and an increase in young adult and elementary-age users, the building now has improved electrical and mechanical systems to increase energy efficiency and is fully handicap accessible.

It had been more than 30 years since the library’s last significant expansion and renovation.

During the past year USDA Rural Development helped a record number of Iowans receive funding for economic development projects and quality of life improvements. The agency’s investment in Iowa helped create or retain more than 2,200 jobs, aided 2,500 families in buying their own homes and assisted more than 250 communities as they made improvements to their facilities, services and infrastructure.
