CONNECTING TO A CLEANER WATER SUPPLY IN NEBRASKA
Sep 20, 2011 --

Outline of Need: The Village of Uehling’s water treatment plant, used to alleviate its problem with iron in the drinking water, was nearing the end of its useful life and needed extensive renovation or replacement. Also, the elevated storage tank did not meet the 10-States Standards for maintaining 20 pounds per square inch (psi) pressure at all times.

How Rural Development Helped: USDA Rural Development made a $109,000 loan to the Village of Uehling in December of 2010. The funds helped the Village connect to the Logan East Rural Water System which is owned by the Lower Elkhorn Natural Resource District.

The Results: By being connected to the Logan East Rural Water System, the Village now has a stable supply of quality water for its 275 residents and 18 businesses. Connecting to Logan East was more cost effective for the Village than if it constructed a new well. Today the water quality has improved and so has the overall public health.
