(SEPTEMBER 22, 2011) JAN FINN-TAKES AND DAN SPEED RECEIVE VILSACK-WALLACE AWARD FROM USDA RURAL DEVELOPMENT
Finn-Takes and Speed Recognized for Outstanding Work Efforts

Des Moines, IA, Sep 22, 2011 -- DES MOINES, Iowa – September 22, 2011 – Bill Menner, USDA Rural Development State Director in Iowa, today announced that Jan Finn-Takes and Dan Speed are this month’s Vilsack-Wallace Award recipients for exceptional contributions to USDA Rural Development in Iowa.

The Vilsack-Wallace Award is given each month to USDA Rural Development employees in Iowa who goes above and beyond their normal work duties to assist rural Iowans and USDA staff.

Finn-Takes and Speed are both Single Family Housing Specialists in the agency’s Tipton office serving homeowners in Benton, Cedar, Clinton, Dubuque, Iowa, Jackson, Johnson, Jones, Linn and Scott Counties.

“Our Tipton office is widely known for excellence in delivering home loan programs to rural residents in eastern Iowa,” Menner said. “Jan and Dan have a have a significant role in that. They are great public servants who have a tremendous impact on their region.”

Finn-Takes and Speed continuously exhibit excellent customer service and go the extra mile to help customers and staff. They take great pride in the work that they do, especially in teaching lenders about the agency’s guaranteed home loan program. They are team players in the Tipton office and are always happy to assist others with any questions.

The Vilsack-Wallace Award is named for the two most recent Iowans to serve as U.S. Agriculture Secretary.  Tom Vilsack served as Iowa’s governor from 1999 to 2007.  Henry A. Wallace was the first Ag Secretary and later Vice President under Franklin Delano Roosevelt.  He also perfected the first corn hybrid and founded Hi-Bred Corn, which later became Pioneer Hi-Bred.

USDA Rural Development is an equal opportunity lender with a variety of direct and guaranteed rural credit programs involving single and multi-family housing, community facilities, water and sewer development and business and cooperative programs.

During the past year USDA Rural Development funds have allowed the agency to help create or retain more than 2,200 jobs in rural Iowa, aid 2,500 families in buying their own homes and assist more than 250 rural communities as they make improvements to their facilities, services and infrastructure.
