| Sep 30, 2011 -- Outline of Need:
With the development of rural acreages in Lancaster County and parts of Otoe and Gage Counties there was a need to increase the amount of water storage and supply to these areas. The Lancaster County Rural Water District (RWD) #1 decided to take on the task of providing these services. They determined that their service area needed a new 500,000 gallon ground storage tank and a 150,000 gallon elevated storage tank , to supplement the six elevated and one ground water storage tanks that they currently had.
How Rural Development Helped:
USDA Rural Development assisted with a Water and Environmental Direct loan for $1,045,000. Without the assistance of USDA Rural Development, RWD #1 would have not been able to fund this project and some of the current developments would not have happened due to the lack of water in these areas.
The Results:
Rural Lancaster County was able to continue building new homes because of their ability to hookup to a vital water supply. Due to this project the new tanks provide enough water and storage for the area at the current growth rate. |
