FARGO, N.D., Nov 09, 2011 -- USDA Rural Development State Director Jasper Schneider today announced that the Lake Agassiz Regional Development Corporation (LARDC) based in Fargo was selected to receive a $500,000 loan and a $105,000 grant to support rural business development, create jobs, and strengthen local communities.
"Having a strong rural community in place is important to our state’s already strong agriculture industry,” Schneider said. "This investment will assist with the ongoing development and economic opportunity for rural communities, making them attractive places to grow business.”
The funding announced today is being provided through the Rural Microentrepreneur Assistance Program (RMAP). This program supports development organizations that make loans to microenterprises and microentreprenuers.
Primarily serving eastern North Dakota, the LARDC is a non-profit organization focused on the long-term sustainability and growth of the region. The organization provides business-based training and technical assistance to emerging and existing rural businesses, community and economic development planning, and coordinates federal, state and private program administration.
