Albuquerque, Nov 29, 2011 -- Earlier today, USDA Rural Development State Director Terry Brunner traveled to Truchas, New Mexico to participate in a ground breaking event which signals the beginning of construction of a new playground for the 35 year old Truchas Day Care Center.
The $$7,125 project was funded through USDA Rural Development’s Community Facilities Program which will allow the center to purchase upgraded playground equipment. The upgraded playground will bring the day care center into compliance with the New Mexico Children Youth and Families Department safety regulations. The funding will also fund the proper fencing and the correct amount of sand and other safety devices for the playground.
During the ground breaking which saw the children handling the shovels, State Director Terry Brunner said, “Congratulations to the Truchas Day Care Center for meeting the challenge of providing a safe, healthy, and vital place for the children enrolled in their programs to thrive and learn.” Brunner added, “Projects like this one not only provide needed infrastructure in our rural communities but they also strengthen the lifeblood of our small rural towns.”
The Community Facilities Program administered by USDA Rural Development provides loan and grant funds to non-profit organizations and governmental entities. The grant funds may be used to assist in the development of essential community facilities. The money can be used to construct, enlarge, or improve community facilities for health care, public safety, and community and public services. This can include the purchase of equipment required for a facility's operation.
