MADISONVILLE Tenn., Aug 18, 2011 --
As any building ages it reaches a point where routine maintenance is no longer enough. For older apartments a little investment can also translate into a lot of savings on utility bills for residents.
Ridgeway Apartments, LTD, USDA Rural Development and the Tennessee Housing Development Agency (THDA) today celebrated the completion of an array of new energy efficiency upgrades and other renovations at Ridgeway Apartments in Madisonville. The improvements were financed with an affordable housing loan through USDA and a grant from THDA.
Each of the 24 apartments is now equipped with new energy star rated windows, energy efficient appliances, water heaters and heating and air conditioning units. Other improvements include new carpet, floor coverings, cabinets and bathroom fixtures. The community rooms were also updated for the benefit of all residents.
"It's hard to find safe, affordable housing near work, school, healthcare and community activities," said RD Area Director Jerry Amonett. "Ridgeway Apartments has always done a great job of marshalling resources to make needed accessibility improvements and upgrades to rural apartments. Now they're even helping reduce energy consumption, which is good for renters and for the environment."
