With the development of rural acreages in Lancaster County and parts of Otoe and Gage Counties there was a need to increase the amount of water storage and supply to these areas. The Lancaster County Rural Water District (RWD) #1 decided to take on the task of providing these services. They determined that their service area needed a new 500,000 gallon ground storage tank and a 150,000 gallon elevated storage tank , to supplement the six elevated and one ground water storage tanks that they currently had.
USDA Rural Development assisted with a Water and Environmental Direct loan for $1,045,000. Without the assistance of USDA Rural Development, RWD #1 would have not been able to fund this project and some of the current developments would not have happened due to the lack of water in these areas.
Rural Lancaster County was able to continue building new homes because of their ability to hookup to a vital water supply. Due to this project the new tanks provide enough water and storage for the area at the current growth rate.
