|USDA SOLICITS PROPOSALS FOR INNOVATIVE, AFFORDABLE SINGLE FAMILY HOUSING DEVELOPMENT IN RURAL OREGON|
|Rural Housing Demonstration Proposals Due by June 6, 2012|

@@USDA wants to partner with housing assistance providers or other organizations developing demonstration projects for affordable single family housing that will reduce costs, raise the standard of living, and improve the environment for low-income rural Oregon residents.
Under the federal fiscal year 2012 Innovative Demonstration Initiative, USDA Rural Development will consider proposals for new approaches and designs for construction of affordable, durable, efficient single family homes. Applicants must have experience with USDA housing programs and have the financial, legal and administrative capacity to build innovative housing for low-income applicants. Proposals must be ready for full-scale testing in a rural setting.
Housing approved through the demonstration initiative would then become qualified property for purchase by residents through the Section 502 Direct Home Loan Program, which offers eligible low-income home buyers 100-percent financing, low fixed rates, and a 33- to 38-year term.
USDA Rural Development has set aside $1 million in funding nationwide to help low-income residents purchase homes developed through demonstration projects in fiscal year 2012. The homes must be located in an eligible rural area (generally, up to 25,000 in population).
Grant funds are not authorized through this announcement.
“We’re looking for creative efforts to build good-quality, affordable and energy-efficient single family housing,” said USDA Rural Development Oregon State Director Vicki Walker. These may include new or improved energy-saving houses, roofing that cools, new building techniques that cut costs while improving quality, or other innovative features.”
