Monson’s Garage of rural Sutton, Nebraska was looking for ways to save on their electric bills. Their roof was leaking and their interior lights were not energy efficient.
USDA Rural Development provided in July of 2008, a Renewable Energy Systems and Energy Efficiency Improvements Grant of $2,783 for needed upgrades. The grantee contributed $8,351 towards the project.
Through the funding, the roof received energy efficient polyurethane foam roofing. The old interior lights were replaced with an energy efficient lighting system. The energy audit projected annual energy savings of 76,914,945 British thermal units or 56 percent. The business actually realized a savings of 64 percent in year one and 70 percent in the second year after the project was installed.
