|(MARCH 23, 2012) USDA RURAL DEVELOPMENT ANNOUNCES VALUE ADDED PRODUCER GRANT RECIPIENTS|

@@Today, USDA Rural Development New York State Director Jill Harvey hosted a press conference to showcase and celebrate five projects in Central New York that received funding through Rural Development’s Value Added Producer Grant Program (VAPG) this past February. Value-added products are created when a producer increases the consumer value of an agricultural commodity in the production or processing stage. These projects represent a portion of the twenty-one projects funded throughout the state, totaling nearly $2 million.
At the press conference, the five projects below were honored;
Farmer Ground Flour, LLC $75,000
Red Jacket Orchards $49,500
Hosmer, Inc. $49,990
New York Beef Farmer’s Cooperative, Canastota $36,500
Guppy’s Berry Farm $3,650
The funded projects will create jobs for agricultural producers, businesses and families. The grants act as a catalyst for business development and entrepreneurship by providing access to capital and technical assistance.
“By creating value-added products, farmers can expand economic opportunities, create jobs and keep wealth in rural communities,” Jill Harvey said. “These projects will promote business expansion and entrepreneurship by helping local businesses get access to capital, technical assistance and new markets for their products and services.”
