|WORKING WITH OUR PARTNERS TO HELP MAKE HOME REPAIRS FOR AN ELDERLY HOMEOWNER|
|, Apr 02, 2012
A home in desperate need of repairs is owned by an elderly woman in Franklin, Nebraska. With a limited and fixed income, she would not have been able to make the repairs without the help of Community Action Partnership of Mid-Nebraska and Rural Development.
USDA Rural Development provided, in May of 2011, a Single Family Housing Repair Grant of $5,880 for a much needed new roof. Once the roof was in place, Mid-Nebraska added $3,800 for the replacement of three doors, 17 windows and attic insulation. Mid-Nebraska also provided $13,468 for an electrical upgrade, wrapping of the soffit, fascia, and windows and for guttering and vinyl siding.
The home of today, with all of the improvements completed, looks like new. Both the homeowner and community take pride in the home that once was worn down. The biggest outcome is that the home is more energy efficient; thus lightening the load on the homeowner’s limited income.
