|, Feb 29, 2012
Outline Of Need:
DS Cole Growers of Loudon, New Hampshire sought out the Rural Energy for America program in an effort to reduce their dependence on fossil fuel (natural gas) and to reduce heating costs.
How Rural Development Helped:
Rural Development provided a $40,318 Rural Energy for America grant to assist in the purchase and installation of a $161,271 project that installed energy curtains to the growhouses.
The project will result in the savings of over 2.2 million BTUs annually—just over $30,000. The project demonstrates a simple payback of 5.3 years.
DS Cole is a 150,000 Sq.Ft. commercial greenhouse complex and is a lead provider of wholesale vegetative annual plants to the nursery trade. Cole distributes throughout New England and the United States.
DS Cole is a leader in integrating high-efficiency and cutting edge technology in their operation. The greenhouse operation utilizes a computerized ebb and flow system in addition to a Dutch designed computerized environmental control system. DS Cole supports 28 jobs in this rural community.
