Platte City, MO, Apr 10, 2012 -- Neal S. Miller, Area Director for USDA Rural Development, announced funding of an $18,363 Value-Added Grant to the Jowler Creek Winery, Inc. A certificate of congratulations representing the funding was presented to Jason and Colleen Gerke, owners of Jowler Creek Winery, Inc. during a funding celebration held on Tuesday, April 10, 2012, at the rural Platte City Winery.
The grant funds originated from Rural Development’s Value-Added Producer Grant program. This program is intended to help producers increase their revenues through value-added activities that expand the customer base for their products or commodities. This grant will enable the Gerkes to produce a new semi-sweet sparkling wine, which will be added to the other varieties that they offer.
“This kind of assistance mirrors USDA Rural Development’s mission and President Obama’s initiative of being committed to the future of rural communities,” said Miller. He added “Appreciation is extended to our federal elected officials for supporting USDA Rural Development. They have been strong proponents for the necessary funding for services for rural Missourians.”
USDA Rural Development’s mission is to deliver programs in a way that will support increasing economic opportunity and improve the quality of life of rural residents.
